Alvin Green, the newly-selected Democratic candidate for South Carolina’s Senate seat, is everything that the Democratic Party loves.
He’s a minority. There is nothing that the Left loves more than soothing their own white guilt by promoting a minority candidate. He’s unemployed. Gotta love the unemployed living on the government dole. He’s an outsider who rails against the establishment. He decries society’s ills and offers to solve them without offering any specific plans.
Really, it’s small wonder that Greene was able to unseat Vic Rawl, a Democratic Party insider to win the Senate nomination. But Greene, who didn’t run any TV ads or put up signs or do anything that could remotely be considered as campaigning, represents the dark side of the anti-incumbent movement sweeping the nation.
Just last fall, Greene allegedly went trolling the local college campus to get a date. His innovative three step strategy to attract a co-ed was to 1) wander into the computer lab, 2) show a complete stranger some porn on his laptop, and 3) then invite himself up to her dorm room. Maybe that’s good dating etiquette wherever Greene came from, but it is a felony obscenity charge in South Carolina. Who knew?
Sadly, the three steps outlined in Greene’s creeping strategy are exactly three more than he’s revealed in his unemployment reduction strategy, the cornerstone of his ill-defined platform. Now the Democratic voters of South Carolina got what they deserved for voting against the establishment without carefully considering the alternative.
Not that Greene had any real chance of beating incumbent Republican Senator James DeMint before these accusations came out, but now DeMint will retain his seat almost by default. Then again, no one thought that Greene had any real chance of beating Rawl in the primary. In fact, absolutely everyone was so confident that neither Rawl nor the press bothered to check into Greene’s background until the day AFTER the election when the co-ed in question brought it up to the AP – six months after she first reported the incident to the police.
Now the Democratic Party is left in the awkward position of trying to subvert the democratic process by seeking to kick Greene out and replace him with the loser in the primary. Five months until the mid-term elections and things are really getting fun already. This should be a great ride.
