RNC vs DNC

by Ronald A. Rowe June 28th, 2011 | Political Humor, Political Opinions, Presidential News
President Barack Obama gave a speech to the DNC the other night that was, according to the official White House transcript, interrupted 12 times by applause or laughter. I got to thinking how different it would have been if he gave the same speech to the RNC.
Words in quotes “” are the president’s actual comments. Words in parenthesis () are the White House’s official interpretation of the crowd’s reaction. Words in brackets [] are what I think would happen if he gave the same speech to the RNC. Words in fancy brackets {} are my

Obama Post Osama

by Ronald A. Rowe May 31st, 2011 | General Politics, Political Opinions, Presidential News, World Politics
Osama Bin Laden has been found and killed. The fact that the number one enemy of the United States of America is now dead is immutable. Whether Bin Laden was, at the time of his death, the mastermind behind a global terrorism organization or a doddering old man waiting to die is open to debate.

Either way, what does the death of Osama Bin Laden mean for President Obama politically? Like most matters political, it depends on whom you ask.

Keeping You Safe Big Brother Style

by Ronald A. Rowe May 17th, 2011 | General Politics, Presidential News
Another day, another bone-chilling sign of the end times. The Federal government announced last week a new initiative aimed at keeping us all safer by alerting the public to emergencies in a timely and efficient manner. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

The government will send an emergency warning to anyone in the path of a terrorist attack or natural disaster. It will also provide “Amber Alerts” – special urgent requests to help find missing children. Who could argue against that?

They’ll do so by means of special chips and software installed right on your cell phone. Everybody’s got a cell phone, so

Bye Bye Birthers

by Ronald A. Rowe May 6th, 2011 | Political Opinions, Presidential Election, Presidential News
Last week I suggested that President Obama could end the whole Birther controversy easily. This week he did exactly as I recommended. When the White House posted Obama’s long-form birth certificate online, it pretty much put to bed any rational or constructive discussion on the issue. Of course, there will be conspiracy theorists who refuse to accept it.

Just as many staunch supporters of the president refused to acknowledge the question of his citizenship as legitimate when it was, his harshest critics will not believe that it isn’t now.

No Shutdown

by Ronald A. Rowe April 12th, 2011 | Congress, Political Opinions, Presidential News
President Obama took to the airwaves with a special announcement for the nation Friday night: the federal government won’t be shutting down in the immediate future. Is it just me, or is the quality of good news not what it used to be? Our representatives in Congress got together and worked across party lines to achieve… not utter and total failure. Yippee.

Anyone who was within earshot of a TV last week knows that there was no bipartisan spirit moving among our elected officials as the process wore on. Maybe if the leaders of the Senate and the House of
