Debatable Winners and Losers

by Ronald A. Rowe January 11th, 2012 | Presidential Election, Winners & Losers, World Politics
The week was dominated by news from the Republican primary race. The kid gloves are off as we move from the “vote for me because…” phase to the “don’t vote for my opponent because” phase of the campaign. Who was up, who was down, and who dropped out this week? Read on.

WINNERS
Rick Santorum
There can be little doubt that the biggest political winner this week is Rick Santorum. He not only made the top of my list but he’s also this week’s People’s Winner, nominated by alert reader Eric. Rick Santorum didn’t win Iowa, but he came within a

2011 Year in Review

by Ronald A. Rowe January 4th, 2012 | Political Opinions, Winners & Losers
Everybody who is anybody (and some who aren’t) is doing a year- end review of one kind or another as we close the books on 2011. Rather than fight against the tide, I humbly present the First Annual Camp Campaign Year End Winners and Losers

WINNERS

Ron Paul
The Winner of the Year is none other than Ron Paul. No other politician has gained so much ground since 1/1/11. At the beginning of the year he was primarily known, outside of his ardent followers, as the fringe Libertarian. Early in the year he was known as the kook who wanted to legalize

Many on the Right have fared little better—George Will referred to the

The Peoples’ Winners and Losers

by Ronald A. Rowe November 2nd, 2011 | Winners & Losers
Before we begin the traditional look at the weekly Winners and Losers from the world of politics, I have a special announcement. Beginning next week you, the People, can nominate your candidate for a Winner or Loser. Just post your suggestion in the comments at the end of this week’s column and your nominee could be highlighted in next week’s list. The rules are pretty simple – the nominee must be a person, country, or group from the realm of politics and the recommendation must be based solely on events that take place within the prior week. How easy

Denialist and Other Dirty Words

by Ronald A. Rowe October 5th, 2011 | General Politics, Political Opinions, Winners & Losers
Who won & who lost in the world of politics this week?

Winners:
African Americans
Until 2008, America had never even had a serious African-American contender for president (with all due respect to Jesse Jackson – I just calls 'em like I sees 'em). Now not only do we have a sitting president of African descent, but with the sudden surge of Herman Cain in the polls we’re looking at the very real prospect of having two Black candidates go head to head next November. Even if Cain’s bid falters in the Republican primaries (which it probably will), just the potential
