Town Hall Protests

General Politics, Political Opinions

town hallWhat is going on here? The Left, the liberals who so fondly reminisce about the marches, draft card burnings, bra burnings, effigy burnings, and general naughtiness of their protests in the sixties and seventies are now united in their steadfast opposition to political protests?

Say it ain’t so. The spirit of the sixties is officially dead, buried under a steaming mound of political expediency. The very people who adored any form of protest, no matter how radical, no matter how personal just a few months ago when President Bush was in office, now find the very notion offensive.

The argument against the Town Hall protesters goes something like this.  And I’m not making this up, I’m just summarizing what the Left is saying.  ”They’re not real protesters.  They’re organized, radical Republicans”.  OK, so the liberal protesters of the last forty years were unorganized and not radical?  On what planet do these arguments even make sense?

The Left is mad because the Right is taking a page out of their playbook.  Until now, conservatives have felt this sort of disrespectful antagonism was beneath them.  They considered it uncivilized.  This is a new generation and a new way of viewing the world.  Young radical conservatives aren’t all that different from young radical liberals any more.  Civility has left the building.

The Left is going to have to get used to it.  No matter how much the liberal media is going to bash the protesters, these guys aren’t going anywhere.  With the Internet, talk radio, and Fox News, they’ve got the means to get the word out and stay connected.  They’re plugged in and ready to go.

It’s the sixties all over again, except the sides are flipped.  And now the protesters have better technology, fewer drugs, and better hygiene.  Fight the power.
